Work in a Warehouse
Learn warehouse work from the dock to the paycheck: who moves, picks, packs, drives and records the goods, the flow from receiving and put-away to picking, packing and shipping and what cross-docking skips, injury rates you compute per 100 workers, GTINs, SSCCs and check digits, a pick list read against OSHA's 35-pound case guide, cycle counts, blind counts and record accuracy, OSHA's forklift rule (18 or older, trained, evaluated, certified and re-evaluated at least every three years), the pre-shift check, travel and parking rules and a shift lead who wants a worker lifted on a pallet, the data plate, load center and stability triangle, NIOSH's lifting equation, trailers, dockboards and dock edges, conveyors, lockout and robots, heat, cold and night shifts, and pay, outlook, quota rights and the step up to lead, manager or logistician.
01Name the main warehouse jobs, follow goods from receiving to shipping, and compute an injury rate per 100 workers
02Work out a barcode's check digit, read a pick list against OSHA's weight guides, and measure inventory record accuracy
03Apply OSHA's forklift rule to training, inspection, travel and parking, and estimate capacity from a data plate
04Use NIOSH's lifting equation, secure a trailer and dockboard, and lock out a conveyor before clearing a jam
05Handle heat, cold and night shifts, and plan a step up to lead, manager or logistician with real pay figures
