How Pilots Fly
Learn a training airplane from the ground up: balance the four forces, find the ailerons, elevator, rudder and flaps on a drawn airplane with no labels, match pitch, roll and yaw to their axes, recover from a stall in the right order, work out standard temperatures and a pressure altitude, pick out each instrument of an unlabeled six-pack and the red line on an airspeed indicator, correct for an old altimeter setting, decode a real FAA METAR and find its ceiling, run a preflight from the logbooks to the runway numbers, read back a taxi clearance to a practice controller, and climb the certificates from student pilot to the 1,500-hour airline transport pilot, with the pay and outlook of the job.
01Explain the four forces and find every control surface on an airplane
02Define angle of attack and recover from a stall in the right order
03Use the standard atmosphere and explain density altitude
04Read the six-pack, the airspeed arcs, an altimeter setting and a METAR
05Run a preflight, read back clearances, and map the road to 1,500 hours
